Camden Fort Meagher is located on Ram’s Head, Crosshaven and overlooks the entire span of Cork harbour. This magnificent WWI fort is internationally recognised as as one of the finest remaining classic coastal artillery forts. The immense fortification spreads over 45 acres, with almost 65% of the area underground in a labyrinth of passageways, tunnels and rooms. Fortifications on the site originally date from around 1550.
The fort has a deep and interesting history and was used as a fortification of one of the Irish Treaty Ports. It was occupied by British military until July 1938 when it was officially handed over to the Irish defence forces. In 1989 Fort Camden was officially handed over to Cork County Council.
We have lots of great events planned in Camden Fort Meagher, including our DNA genetics seminar with IrelandsDNA, the world premiere of Being Ginger, the movie and our headline performance of “A Wine Goose Chase” and intimate gig with Kellie Marie.
Entry to the fort is fre for registered Redheads. You must be wearing your wristband, which is included in your registration pack. The Fort is open to the public from 12 noon – 5pm on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 August.
